IUD: IOU is a short documentary which focuses on contraceptive accessibility in Canada. I wrote and pitched this topic at SAIT in 2018 and spent the next year and a half putting my plans into action. In April 2020, this project was premiered in the SAIT 2020 Student Screening which can be watched in full on youtube or by clicking the button below.
Ginger Beef (Dir. Eunice Hau) is a pilot which I had the pleasure of working on for its short 2-day shoot. I worked as a 2nd AC and my duties included: marking, slating, batteries, and changing lenses and filters.
I worked as a Camera Trainee on the independent feature Chasing Justice (dir. Wendy Hill-Tout, Voice Productions) for my senior practicum at SAIT. I had the pleasure of working with a lot of great people who extended their knowledge and experience to me. My duties included: battery station, loading/off-loading carts, moving and setting video village, assisting camera by fetching accessories and moving tripods, filling out reports, slating, marking, delivering hot media and replenishing cards. This was a wonderful shoot to work on, I learned so much and made great connections.
Ximena Rios is a director who participated in Herland, a Calgary based organization dedicated to helping women reach their full potential in the Film Industry, and was searching to create a women strong crew. Due to my experience with extras, I was able to work as 2nd AD on this short film: Faded and helped out with anything I could during the short 2-day shoot.
Fall of 2018 I transferred to SAIT's Film and Video Production Program and I am currently finishing my final semester. Here I am able to apply the theory of film which I learned at the University of Calgary to the practice of filmmaking itself. At SAIT, I am learning the technical and practical skills of film and video. I have worked as a Director, a 1st AD, a Director of Photography, a Camera Operator, a 1st AC, a Picture Editor and Picture Editor on our student film projects. When I finish my program at SAIT I will transfer the credits back to the University of Calgary and graduate with my Bachelor.
Fall of 2016 I enrolled at the University of Calgary and began working towards a Bachelor of Film Studies. I was admitted to the University in the First Year Scholars Academy for my high entry grades. I quickly joined NUTV, the campus film and video organization and took their class to become camera certified. I then worked on several videos with the organization as a camera operator or PA. Videos I shot with NUTV such as 'I'll Stand Up: National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women' can be seen on their youtube channel:

At the University I studied many different eras and genres of film including: animation, documentary, film noir, French cinema, British cinema, early cinema, and post-1950's cinema. I took a class under our resident filmmaker Gary Burns and learned a lot from him. In this class I produced a couple of short documentaries which helped spark my interest in the medium.
I worked as a PA for Redline Interactive, a digital marketing agency, to film a series of videos for the Canadian Labour Congress. As a general PA I did it all: sourced props, built Ikea furniture, helped secure location permits, transcribed video, aided in set decoration/wardrobe, tracked extras, held bounces, operated a smoke machine, took BTS photos, was a general helping hand and so much more.
The result was a series of videos that I am proud to be able to say I helped create as well as my first bought of experience in the Albertan Film Industry. 'Safe Jobs: Asbestos' and 'Precarious Work' are two videos up on Redline's youtube which I PA'd for and can be found here:

'Refugee Crisis' (a 360 degree video) and 'MMIW' are up on Redline's website as case studies- both of which I PA's for. Click the button below to check them out.
